The Former Sheriff Court

Opening its doors for the first time in 1844, the building was erected to house the City's  County Buildings.  The block was extended all the way back from Wilson Street to Ingram Street later in the century.  The erection of the City Chambers in George Square in 1888 led to a change of use for the County Buildings, and it made way to house Glasgow Sheriff Court and did so for the next 100 years or so.

The competition winning neo-classical design, by the Glasgow based partnership of William Clarke & George Bell, features an elevated portico sitting on a decorated plinth with a frieze of classical figures at street level.

After the closure and re-siting of the Glasgow Sheriff Court across the river in 1986 the site lay derelict for many years before being transformed into its current use today. The building now houses a mix of residential and commercial properties and also houses the Scottish Youth Theatre and one of the city's finest eateries.

Summer Terrace
The Scottish summer may be a blink-and-you'd-miss-it few days, but here at Citation we’re primed and ready for those long summer days.  The only trouble is that when it's time to head outside and soak up those precious days of sunshine there’s never enough tables and chairs to meet demand.  We however have 3 large “Al Fresco” areas, each designed to give you the same fantastic dining experience you’ve come to expect from Citation, outdoors. Simply sit in the sun, relax and enjoy the rays… We’ll do the rest!
Located on both Brunswick & Wilson Street our pavement terraces operate daily from 12 Noon ‘til 10.00 pm. Dine al fresco and people watch in the heart of Glasgow’s cultural quarter. Lunch menus are available or simply enjoy the newspapers with a coffee or relax in the sun with an ice cold beer or cocktail.

The Portico
The Portico is located on the façade of our first floor restaurant and opens daily from 12 Noon ‘til midnight. Nestling amidst the towering Corinthian styled columns, which are Citation’s exterior, it hosts one of Glasgow’s finest hidden charms. This well-appointed external area is certainly the space to dine in style. Dine from our lunch or a la carte menus or simply take in the view whilst enjoying a glass of champagne.
